Support PKD Patient

The Haggard Law Firm joins the Haggard family is remaining forever grateful for the support many of you have shown us during our Casino For A Cure events where 100% of the proceeds go to the PKD Foundation. As many of you know, our Michael Haggard spent many years managing his PKD diagnosis. Last year he received a life-saving kidney transplant from his brother-n-law.

Today we are asking you to spread the word in support of another PKD patient, Susan Kaplan. Kaplan is the Coordinator of the PKD Foundation’s South Florida Chapter. As her PKD has further affected her health, she is now in a place where only a new kidney will extend her life. Below is an email Susan sent to many of her friends and family. We hope you take the time to read it and help save this hero who has dedicated so much of her time-saving others.

I have entered a new chapter in my life and I Need Your Help!

I have been living with a genetic disease called PKD (polycystic kidney disease). This disease has caused many benign cysts to form on my Kidneys. I am now facing end stage renal disease and the possibility of going on dialysis.

I am a Daughter, Wife, Mother and Nana and Friend.

I am presently an elementary school -substitute teacher in Boca Raton, Florida. I also volunteer my time, helping others, as the Coordinator of the PKD Foundation’s South Florida Chapter.  (

I love to travel, create scrapbooks and most of all – the highlight of my life is being with my family, especially my 3 wonderful young grandchildren! I want to continue living my life -doing what I enjoy –with a New Kidney! I am currently on the Transplant List at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. The wait for a kidney will take years and for this reason, I am seeking a Living Kidney Donor and Need Your Help!

The following link can explain some general information on live kidney donation:

I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

I am Blood Type O. A Donor with blood Type O is most ideal. However, ANY blood type donor can be used in a Kidney Swap/Paired Donation and there are some options available for incompatible donors as well. If you wish to donate and your blood type is A, B or AB- please do not be deterred as it still can work! (see above UNOS link for more information on the different transplant options available).

Please know that all Medical expenses related to donating a kidney are covered by my health insurance. Other expenses such as travel, lodging and loss of wages within limitations will be subjects for discussion and most often covered.

To inquire about being Susan Caplan’s Donor please call:

The Living Donor Department of Cleveland Clinic Weston, Florida at 954-659-6770.

The most qualified professionals at the Cleveland Clinic will be answering all inquiries and they can answer any questions you might have. All inquiries are strictly confidential and without obligation.

I would greatly appreciate if you could help me by forwarding this email to anyone you might know –family, friends, neighbors, community members etc…who may be interested in Sharing Their Spare Kidney and Giving Me the “Gift of Life”!

My contact information is listed below

Thank you in advance!

With love,

Susan Caplan
