REPORT: Some Uber Drivers Work Dangerous Shifts

A recent story from USA Today lays out how some Uber drivers work dangerously long shifts to maximize revenue. The article written by USA Today‘s Dinana Kruzman reads in part:

For some Uber drivers, long shifts have become the norm.  Dropping fares and profitable incentives lure them to keep driving past safe limits. Because the ride-hailing service doesn’t set a cap on how many hours its drivers can work at a time, there are few legal ways to stop them. By contrast, rival Lyft shuts off its app, which drivers need to find customers, after 14 hours at a time and doesn’t let drivers back on for six hours to let them rest. As a result, the potential danger for Uber passengers and drivers alike continues to grow, even as efforts to limit driving hours spring up across the country.

BREAKING: Young Father Killed Outside Strip Club

According to local media outlets in Miami, the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shot around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, near the 2800 block of W. Broward Blvd. at Club Pink South. 21-year-old Wendell Soliphar, who recently moved to the United States from the Bahamas, was leaving the club when he was shot and killed. A family member told CBS Miami that he believes Wendell was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The victim leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter.

Initial reports lay out some similarities between this case and a negligent security case litigated by The Haggard Law Firm a decade ago.

Haggard, Michaels Named to 2017 Legal Elite List

The Haggard Law Firm’s Michael Haggard and Todd Michaels have been named winners of Florida Trend’s 2017 Legal Elite Recognition. Both attorneys were given the honor in the Civil Trial category. The list of honorees represents fewer than 1.5% of the active Florida Bar members who practice in Florida.

Now in its 14th year, Florida Legal Elite presents a prestigious roster of attorneys chosen for recognition by their peers. The 1,080 lawyers listed here exemplify a standard of excellence in their profession and by so doing, have garnered the respect and esteem of their colleagues.

Voting for this year’s Legal Elite attorneys began in October 2016 when Florida Trend invited all in-state members of the Florida Bar to participate. Multiple announcements publicized the ballot deadline and voting guidelines.

Searching For A Killer: Cold Case Help Needed

Earlier today, NBC South Florida visited The Haggard Law Firm to speak with the family members of Danny Fundora who was killed in early 2013. The person or people who took his life have not been caught. We hope the upcoming story by NBC will draw new attention to the murder case.  The Haggard Law Firm represents the Fundora family in a negligent security lawsuit against the supermarket where Danny was killed. The business did not take the security measures needed to stop the horrible incident.

Our Todd Michaels commented on the case and search for Fundora’s killer  today:

Swim Safety: Broken Pool Gates

May is National Swim Safety Month. The Haggard Law Firm wants to take this opportunity to share swimming safety tips, including those we have unfortunately have become experts on because of catastrophic injury cases we have litigated over the years. One example is the 2001 case of Loren Hinton. A 2-year old that suffered a significant brain injury when she fell into a residential complex pool after pushing over a broken safety gate. This video details that case and includes safety factors to consider to make sure a tragedy like this does not happen again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeYdaYBX9ok Click for more on Haggard Law Firm Pool Drowning Accidents...
